Texas State Technical College, Home of the Money-Back Guarantee
The premise is simple: Get a degree, get a job, or get a refund! TSTC is so confident in the quality of its technical education programs that it guarantees its graduates will find a job within six months of graduation – or their money back.
TSTC has been training and placing Texans in great jobs for over 50 years, but there continues to be a skills gap in highly skilled technicians in the workforce. The Money-Back Guarantee (MBG) reinforces TSTC’s commitment to prepare and place highly skilled, technically competent students in the workforce.
What associate degree programs are eligible for the program?
Who may participate in the program?
Students who are in their first semester at Texas State Technical College, in an MBG approved program of study and are eligible to work in the U.S.
When does the program take effect?
The program will start November 1 and will be backdated to include newly enrolled students for Fall 2016, in eligible MBG programs.
If I don’t get a job within six months of graduation, what amount is eligible for refund?
Only tuition dollars are eligible to be refunded. Tuition reimbursement includes funds paid out of pocket by the student and/or the portion of student loans used to pay for tuition, only. Tuition paid by student loans will be reimbursed directly to the lending agency. All student loan debt used to pay tuition will be reimbursed to lending agency prior to any out of pocket tuition reimbursement to the student. Tuition reimbursement also excludes cost of textbooks, course fees, residence hall or living accommodations, or fees for taking certification tests. Grants and scholarships used to pay for tuition are not reimbursable.
What are the steps to enroll in the program?
Contact your local TSTC campus Career Services department to set up an appointment to go over the program. An application will need to be completed along with reviewing and signing the MBG Student and College Agreement and the Get a Job Agreement.
What is the Get- a- Job Program and how does it work?
The Get-a-Job Program is a required MBG extracurricular program that teaches students how to gain the skills and knowledge they need to get a job. The program takes five semesters – attending full time (12 credit hours per semester) or longer if less than 12 credit hours per semester, and covers topics like resume writing, interview prep, mock interviews and also includes attending Career Days, employer spotlights and other Career Services events.
What happens if I don’t have a job by graduation?
There is a phase 2 component to the Get-a-Job Program that has additional activities a student would need to complete over the six month period beginning right after graduation.
Will I be signing an agreement detailing the terms and conditions of the MBG Program?
Yes. You will be signing two agreements: MBG Student and College Agreement and the Get a Job Agreement.
Can TSTC terminate me from the program, if so, for what reasons?
If you fail to complete all activities outlined in the Get A Job Agreement, you will no longer be eligible for the Money Back Guarantee nor a tuition refund.
