The Department of Biology offers courses needed for the Associate of Science in Biology degree as well as the Academic Core (basic courses transferable to any four-year institution in Texas) and prerequisite coursework for various Allied Health Technologies. With an associate degree in Biology you’ll have a head start toward a bachelor’s degree in biology, or you can choose a medical school path.
If you're interested in biology, but don't yet know if you want to work toward a bachelor's degree in Biology or take the medical school path, this is the degree for you. If you decide to go to work after earning your associate degree in Biology, there are many interesting and exciting positions for which you would be qualified, such as a lab technician working under the supervision of a biologist or a veterinarian, or a salesperson for scientific or medical equipment. You'll also have an advantage studying in medical fields, such as medical assisting.
