Marshall Electrical Lineworker Technology

(MARSHALL, Texas) – Cody Case, of Tyler, began teaching this semester in the Electrical Lineworker Technology program at Texas State Technical College in Marshall.

He grew up in Big Sandy and has an Electrical Lineworker Technology certificate of completion  from Kilgore College.

What made you decide to pursue teaching in TSTC’s Electrical Lineworker Technology program?

My decision to pursue a career as an instructor, I would have to say, started when I was teaching lower apprentices different things as we were working out on the crews. Being able to see that switch click when they finally understood what I was trying to show them and why made me want to get into teaching.

What is the most important thing you want your students to remember when they graduate from TSTC?

To me, the most important thing for these guys to remember is that everything is an educational opportunity. This line of work is dangerous, but if these guys can take the time to learn the correct and safe way to do things, they will be able to make a long, fulfilling career within this industry.

Why is the Electrical Lineworker Technology program great for students to pursue?

This program is an incredible opportunity for students to get into a line of work that will always be around and is continuing to grow. This line of work is hard, but if they are willing to put in the time and learn, they will be able to have a very comfortable lifestyle.

What do you want people to know about TSTC’s Electrical Lineworker Technology program that they may not know?

This program is one of the best, if not the best, programs in the state. The amount of knowledge and hands-on experience is unmatched in any other program that I have come across. This program does not just teach you to climb and work off the pole, but how the equipment we use every day works and why. Most of the guys coming into this program have zero experience, and by the time they graduate, they are ready to work and be hired by any company out there.

What motivates you daily?

My motivation in life comes from God and family. In Ecclesiastes 9:10 God says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might.” I take this to heart in everything I do and try to do my best regardless of what it is. My wife and little girl are why I get up every day to go to work and try my hardest to succeed in everything my hands find to do.

TSTC’s Marshall campus offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Lineworker Technology and an Electrical Lineworker certificate of completion.
