(RED OAK, Texas) – Representatives from NOV Hydra Rig, a coiled tubing, nitrogen and snubbing equipment manufacturer in Fort Worth, visited Texas State Technical College’s North Texas campus Tuesday, May 16, to speak with Welding Technology students about career opportunities.

The representatives discussed the company, job opportunities and benefits, and emphasized the company’s focus on quality.

“We have a reputation for quality around the world, and you don’t get that just ’cause — you get it by being very deliberate about everything,” Trent Wills, NOV Hydra Rig’s director of business development, said. “We’ll compromise on some things, but we’ll never compromise on quality.”

Students stayed engaged with the presentation and asked a number of questions about the company and opportunities for growth within it.

“I like the questioning; I like the ambition,” Wills said. “We want everybody to come in and want to be a level two and a level three. We definitely want employees to come in and want to achieve.”

Cliff Stewart, a NOV Hydra Rig manufacturing supervisor, commented on the ability to grow and move within the company and to learn.

“This school teaches you a lot of stuff,” he said. “But once you get out there, there’s a lot to learn, and we’re here to teach you.”

The representatives focused their discussion on the Fort Worth location for Hydra Rig but also mentioned some of their other locations worldwide.

TSTC offers Welding Technology at each of its 10 campuses located throughout Texas. North Texas’ campus offers an occupational skills achievement award and several certificates of completion in the program.

According to onetonline.org, welders, cutters, solderers and brazers can earn a yearly median salary of more than $48,000 in Texas. These jobs were expected to increase in the state by 23% between 2020 and 2030, according to the website.

Welding Technology is one of nine programs at TSTC that have money-back guarantees. The college’s commitment to participating students is simple: If they do not have a job in their field within six months after graduation, they will receive a full refund of their tuition.
