(ROSENBERG, Texas) – Representatives from German printing press manufacturer Koenig & Bauer visited with some Texas State Technical College Industrial Systems students during an employer spotlight at TSTC’s Fort Bend County campus on Oct. 12.
The students are in or nearing their final semester of the program.
The Koenig & Bauer representatives highlighted the benefits of working at their company, covering topics such as pay, schedules, day-to-day activities, and workload. The students asked questions throughout the presentation and talked with the representatives one-on-one afterward.
Walter Chmura, vice president of technical sales at Koenig & Bauer, expressed his admiration for the students of TSTC.
“We realize your college is 10 stars,” Chmura said. “We believe you are going to be the best, and we want to capture the best.”
Ericka Luneau, director of human resources at Koenig & Bauer, said events such as the employer spotlight give her a chance to educate potential hires about working for a company that they might not have considered otherwise.
“Spotlights and job fairs let people know who we are and allow us to show what we do,” she said. “We can meet with the people and actually highlight our job benefits. For a company in an industry not a lot of people know about, it’s a big opportunity.”
For the students, spotlights give them a chance to look into various companies before having to make a decision. Rather than graduate before looking for jobs, many TSTC students come out of their programs with jobs already lined up.
“Out of the students in attendance today, all but two already have job offers,” said Kent Weed, a TSTC Career Services representative. “That doesn’t mean they can’t keep looking and maybe change their path later on, though.”
TSTC offers Industrial Systems at its Abilene, East Williamson County, Fort Bend County, Marshall, New Braunfels, North Texas and Waco campuses. Associate of Applied Science degrees and several certificates of completion in various specializations are available, depending on campus location.
The program is part of TSTC’s Money-Back Guarantee, which refunds a participating graduate’s tuition if he or she has not found a job in their field within six months of graduation. For more information, visit tstc.edu/mbg.
