Students sit in rows while presenters talk at the front of the group

(ROSENBERG, Texas) – Representatives from American brewing company Anheuser-Busch visited with some Texas State Technical College Industrial Systems, Electrical Power and Controls, and Robotics and Industrial Controls Technology students during an employer spotlight at TSTC’s Fort Bend County campus on Oct. 25.

At the same time, representatives from Drilling Tools International, a provider of downhole tools for drilling markets, met with some TSTC students from the Welding Technology and Precision Machining Technology programs.

Both spotlights were well attended, and the companies were able to highlight their work benefits, pay and schedules. Students were encouraged to interact and ask questions of the representatives, with Drilling Tools International reps handing out company-branded promotional items to those who did.

Although it was the first time that anyone from Anheuser-Busch had visited the campus, Lindsay Hoagland, a learning and development representative from the company, noted that it would not be their last.

“Our company and others are working on autonomy and upscaling our workforce,” Hoagland said. “We are working on a training curriculum in tandem with TSTC to do that, and we saw this spotlight as an opportunity to strengthen our relationship.”

While the brewing company did not currently have any job openings, it plans on one or more opening up in the near future.

On the other hand, Drilling Tools International has openings at every location it operates in North America, with its Texas location in Odessa being the one with the biggest need.

“When we are hiring, we are looking for hands-on people with a work ethic that want to learn,” said Ryan McGuirt, a precision machinist at the Houston branch of the company.

The representatives focused highly on their desire for qualified workers who can produce the best results. Justin Diaz, the district operations manager, noted that since Drilling Tools International is a rental company, it needs to provide the best tools possible so that drilling companies will keep coming back.

“If and when you apply, know that there will be in-house training to meet our qualifications,” Diaz told the students. “The best advice I can give is to ask questions. Make sure you are not only living up to their expectations, but your expectations as well.”
