(MARSHALL, Texas) – Texas State Technical College’s Marshall location hosted a record 65 companies at its biannual Industry Job Fair for TSTC students and alumni on Thursday, March 21.
Mathew Joseph, a TSTC graduate and the president and owner of C3 Industrial Technologies, LLC, said the job fair was a first for his electromechanical troubleshooting and maintenance company. Joseph typically hires TSTC students and graduates.
“We’re looking to grow our company, and we would like to see if we can find some people that are interested in growing with us and that have come from TSTC,” he said.
Archrock, a natural gas compression services and equipment provider, came to the event looking for Diesel Equipment Technology and Industrial Systems students.
Lesley Williams, a human resources business partner at Archrock, said she had attended TSTC’s job fairs in the past.
“We’ve hired about six TSTC students across the state of Texas,” she said.
Second-semester Automation and Controls Technology student Chase Kent came to the job fair in search of a part-time job or internship. With so much information and so many free promotional items at his disposal, he continually had to run to and from his car to store everything.
“I’m looking for a job to get my foot in the door so I can get some experience before I graduate (and) can go straight into the field,” he said.
With plans to graduate from TSTC in August, Electrical Lineworker and Management Technology student Trevor Edmondson knew that the job fair was the perfect place to begin looking toward his future. He said TSTC’s job fairs provide a good way to navigate the job market and present himself to employers.
“It’s hard to get a job sometimes, especially if you’re doing it on your own or you don’t know anybody,” he said. “It’s easier to have somebody you can go talk to in person instead of just trying to send in a resume.”
TSTC’s Marshall location will host its next job fair next fall.
