(MARSHALL, Texas) – Kaitlyn Scott recently enrolled in Texas State Technical College’s Diesel Equipment Technology program after earning two certificates of completion from the college’s Welding Technology program.
“I decided to do diesel to get more knowledge so if something happens and I can’t do welding, I have diesel to fall back on,” the Killeen native said.
Scott said she was once told that women could not be welders, which only made her want to pursue the field more. She excelled at TSTC, joining honor society Phi Theta Kappa and becoming a student worker at the Marshall campus’s Advocacy and Resource Center.
Scott attributes her educational success to her instructors and several TSTC staff members.
“It’s like one big family up here,” Scott said. “I love this campus because they welcome you with open arms.”
Lee Killingsworth, the Advocacy and Resource Center coach at TSTC’s Marshall campus, expressed his admiration for Scott’s work ethic.
“Kaitlyn is one of the hardest-working students I know,” Killingsworth said. “She outperforms most of her fellow students and is always up to taking care of anything that is needed. She will be great at whatever she decides to do and a huge asset to any company once she graduates from here for the third time.”
Scott will begin pursuing her Diesel Equipment Technology Off-Highway Specialization certificate of completion in the upcoming spring semester. She plans to remain in East Texas after she graduates.
Diesel Equipment Technology is available at TSTC’s Fort Bend County, Marshall, North Texas, Sweetwater and Waco campuses, and it will be available at the Abilene campus starting this fall. Welding Technology is offered at all 11 TSTC campuses across the state.
Both programs are part of TSTC’s Money-Back Guarantee, which refunds a participating graduate’s tuition if he or she has not found a job in their field within six months after graduation.
