(MARSHALL, Texas) – Texas State Technical College’s Marshall campus offered its annual spring preview event, known as TechXperience Day, on Thursday, March 6.
Local high schools, organizations and families received in-depth tours of the Marshall campus’s programs to find out how TSTC places more Texans in great-paying jobs.
The city of Longview’s Aspire Mentoring Program, an adult mentor program for Longview school districts, brought 11 students to TSTC’s Marshall campus. Program administrator Stephanie Adams said the organization tours a variety of colleges each year, but she expressed her appreciation for the opportunities that TSTC offers.
“TSTC is a really big benefit here in this area, and I don’t know if our kids know how lucky they are to have this so close by,” she said.
Fourteen-year-old Keira Brest, who is homeschooled, was already familiar with TSTC since her brother is enrolled in the Marshall campus’s Diesel Equipment Technology program. She expressed interest in studying Business Management Technology.
“I came to look at the business course so that I can help my mom run a bakery that she’s always had and I also dream of doing,” Brest said.
Charlotte Leon, director of career and technical education for Marshall ISD, led one of three groups from Marshall High School on a campus tour. She said the students in her group were either sophomores interested in TSTC’s dual credit program or seniors exploring college options.
“This is my second year in Marshall, and I believe we have brought kids (to TSTC) five times,” Leon said. “I think that the opportunities that are provided here are like a little hidden gem.”
