(HUTTO, Texas) – Some Texas State Technical College students were offered internships and jobs on the spot this week at a job fair hosting potential employers from around the state.

TSTC’s Williamson County campus participated in the job fair at the Waco campus from March 4 to 6. The event was organized each day according to the type of attendees to maximize employer-student conversations for each industry.

Alfonso Delgado, operations manager at Samsung Austin Semiconductor, said he enjoyed the interactions with the TSTC students.

“What I liked hearing the most was ‘I’ve been looking up Samsung,’ not ‘I don’t want to sell phones,’” Delgado said. “People know about advanced manufacturing now. My table was nonstop busy, and it was a lot of great conversations.”

Augustus Kovarna, a Welding Technology student who chose to drive himself to the event instead of taking the bus that the college provided, said it was worth the trip to Waco.

“I was able to find some companies looking for welders,” Kovarna said. “I want to travel a lot for work, and I got a lot of information. There’s one or two companies I’m really interested in applying to.”

Robert Hernandez, an Industrial Systems student, said the event surpassed his expectations.

“I was offered five internships on the spot,” Hernandez said. “I also talked to companies about full-time jobs. I came to the job fair with 15 resumes, and I’m leaving with four.”

Registration for TSTC’s summer and fall semesters begins March 24.
