(ABILENE, Texas) – Twenty-one high school seniors committed to attending Texas State Technical College in West Texas during a National CTE (career and technical education) Signing Day ceremony that was held Thursday, April 14, at TSTC’s campus in Abilene.

TSTC joined colleges across the country to spotlight students who commit to a technical education. With family, school officials and TSTC instructors looking on, each student had the opportunity to sign a letter of intent to attend TSTC.

“I am so excited for my high school dual enrollment students,” said Shelby Bennett, a TSTC dual enrollment recruitment representative. “This was our first high school senior-focused event since the pandemic began. It was great to see these students honored for their hard work.”

Elisha Seca, a career coach with Abilene Independent School District, said the event marked the first step in a career for his 10 students.

“It is great to see these students transition from high school to beginning a career,” he said. “These students deserve to have their time in the spotlight like our athletes.”

Eula High School senior Kenton Perryman received an extra surprise by receiving the 3M Industries Industrial Systems scholarship.

“I was shocked,” said Perryman, who is a dual enrollment Industrial Systems student. “I am going to work on getting my certificate so I can get to doing what I love. I plan to open my own business focusing on metal and artwork.”

TSTC Industrial Systems instructor Daniel Diaz said Perryman is a model student.

“He learns things quickly and just runs with it,” he said.

Clyde High School seniors Aiden McHan and Bristol Poindexter, as well as Perryman, each received a $1,000 TSTC scholarship during a random drawing.

Bennett also presented dual enrollment medals to McHan, Perryman, Poindexter and Ethan Wright, of Hawley High School, for each to wear during their high school graduation ceremonies next month. The medal is awarded to students who complete the dual enrollment pathway.

National Signing Day activities were held at each of TSTC’s 10 campuses across the state.
