(MARSHALL, Texas) – More than 40 graduates from Texas State Technical College’s Marshall campus received associate degrees and certificates of completion at TSTC’s Spring 2022 Commencement held Wednesday at Memorial City Hall Performance Center in downtown Marshall.
“What an exciting evening,” said Barton Day, provost of TSTC’s Marshall campus. “We are excited for our graduates. We know they will do great in the workforce.”
Haley Chapman, an instructor in the statewide Business Management Technology program, was excited to see her students participate in the in-person ceremony.
“The venue is absolutely beautiful,” she said. “I feel it will make our students feel as celebrated as they should be.”
Several TSTC graduates already have jobs.
Daylon Fountain, of Center, received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Lineworker Technology. He has been working for about a month for Texas-based Spartan Utility Services as a traveling contract technician.
Fountain said he will miss his instructors and appreciated their work in helping him and other students train for the electrical field. He said several relatives were present to watch him walk across the stage.
Gunner Clark, of Tyler, received a certificate in Structural and Pipe Welding. He is close to finishing the hiring process at WarFab, which has East Texas locations in Hallsville and Longview.
“I enjoyed it (TSTC) a lot, and it was fun and very satisfying,” he said. “I am extremely excited. I am ready to get on with my life and get my career going.”
Clark said he was going to go out to eat with his family after the ceremony.
One of the students wearing a Phi Theta Kappa honors society stole was Christi Glawson, of Marshall. She received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Process Operations Technology after receiving a certificate from the Welding Technology program in 2020.
Glawson worked during her time at TSTC as a student worker in the administration office.
“If I could stay forever, I would,” she said. “I hope I find what I found here out in the world.”
