(ROSENBERG, Texas) – Two representatives from Mustang CAT-Energy Rental Solutions recently visited Texas State Technical College’s campus in Fort Bend County to share with TSTC HVAC Technology students what their company does.
Dedicated to the specialty rental business, Mustang CAT-Energy Rental Solutions has one of the largest equipment rental fleets of temperature control, compressed air and power generation products on the Gulf Coast, according to its website, ers-cat.com.
“It’s a lot more mentally stimulating and a lot more challenging, but at the same time, it can be a lot more rewarding,” James Yarbrough, area operations manager for Mustang CAT-Energy Rental Solutions, said of the work that technicians complete. “We experience nice, high profit margins and are able to offer good benefits to employees. All of our technicians are on a very lucrative bonus plan.”
In addition to its Houston-area location, the company staffs sites in Beaumont, throughout Louisiana and in Mississippi.
Yarbrough told the students who attended the employer spotlight event, which was organized by TSTC’s Career Services department, that his company is in growth mode.
“We’re pretty much in a situation where if we find the right guy — even if we have the right amount of people, we’d probably still hire them,” he said. “We’re going to proactively hire in some cases.”
Yarbrough emphasized how essential it is that technicians possess good customer service skills.
“You’re the face of the company,” he said. “Your personality is important. A positive outlook and a good attitude are important. We tell our techs all the time that they are why we’re where we are today.”
The employer spotlight event marked the second time that Yarbrough and Chris Richnow, technical service manager for Mustang-CAT Energy Rental Solutions, have visited TSTC’s campus in Fort Bend County. The first time was for the Industry Job Fair in March.
“This was a much better audience for us,” Richnow said of the TSTC HVAC Technology students. “Having this group here gives us the opportunity to tell them about ourselves.”
Yarbrough agreed, highlighting the importance of TSTC in generating quality potential technicians, particularly from its dedicated HVAC Technology program.
“A lot of our other locations are smaller and in smaller places; they don’t have the resources like TSTC around when they need some techs,” he said. “It’s a very big benefit for us to have here. Having schools like this is important.”
TSTC’s campus in Fort Bend County offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in HVAC Technology, as well as several certificates of completion. This program is part of TSTCYou, which meets students where they are through a flexible, performance-based education that works with busy schedules.
In Texas, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers can earn an average annual salary of $47,980, according to onetonline.org, which forecasts the number of these positions to grow by 16% through 2028.
