(ABILENE, Texas) – People around the world use food and beverage packaging products manufactured at Pactiv Evergreen’s facilities, including the Abilene plant.

Brent Nealy, the company’s senior talent acquisition consultant, told some Texas State Technical College students during a recent employer spotlight that when they graduate, they will have the skills needed to work for the company.

“You will have all the skill sets that we are looking for when you complete your studies at TSTC,” he told students in the Electrical Power and Controls and Industrial Systems programs at the Abilene campus. “This will be a great organization for you to work with because we look at it not just as a place to start a career, but to expand a career.”

Pactiv Evergreen develops 14 different types of material at 10 manufacturing plants. The company has introduced more than 4,000 new products within the last five years, Nealy said.

“Every time you get a drink from McDonald’s or Starbucks, those plastic cups were manufactured at one of our facilities,” he said. “We also produce egg cartons and berry containers for grocery chains.”

Julliana Delacot, a training coordinator and human resource generalist at the Abilene facility, told students about the plant, which opened in 2006.

“We have many career opportunities for you,” she said. “The opportunities for you to grow are there.”

Among the jobs that Delacot mentioned were maintenance associate, setup mechanic and extrusion operator.

Nealy gave the students an example of how employees can be promoted at the company.

“The plant manager and production managers at the Abilene facility were former packers,” he said. “That shows we are committed to growth within the company.”

Pactiv Evergreen focuses on safety first and awards employees monthly with safety excellence bonuses, Delacot said.

“We strive hard to make sure our employees remain safe on the job,” she said. “With the technology we have, each of our facilities is the safest it possibly can be.”

Nealy said the company works with students through the tuition reimbursement program.

“If you are studying for a certificate of completion, let us work with you so you can continue your education,” he said. “We want you to know all you can when you are working at our facilities.”

TSTC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Power and Controls in a hybrid format, combining virtual learning with in-person, hands-on lab work. In addition to the Abilene campus, TSTC’s campuses in Fort Bend County, North Texas and Waco offer the program.

At its Abilene campus, TSTC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Systems – Mechanical Specialization and several certificates of completion.

Electrical Power and Controls and Industrial Systems are two programs at TSTC that have money-back guarantees. The college’s commitment to students is simple: If they do not have a job in their field within six months of graduation, then they will receive a full refund of their tuition.
