Waco Career Services M&S Engineering

(WACO, Texas) – Texas State Technical College’s Career Services department hosted staff this week from two companies looking to meet, and possibly, hire students.

Representatives of M&S Engineering and Texas Instruments talked to students from the Avionics Technology, Electrical Power and Controls, and Instrumentation Technology programs.

M&S Engineering has offices throughout the state, including Beaumont, Georgetown and Spring Branch. The full-service firm focuses on design work for civil and electrical engineering, surveying, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) engineering.

The company is looking for applicants who are good with computers, know AutoCAD, and understand the power distribution field.

“We have a lot of work, and our company is growing very quickly,” said Anthony St. Amant, a project manager at M&S Engineering.

Texas Instruments, which has locations in Dallas, Richardson and Sherman, specializes in the engineering, manufacturing and testing of analog and embedded semiconductor chips.

The company is looking for equipment, facilities, process and product technicians.

“Technicians are the backbone of our entire company,” said Kenneth Anderson, an equipment engineer supervisor at Texas Instruments. “The culture is really good. It’s a team atmosphere. Though we are a large company, we work in small teams.”

Chris Atwell, of Axtell, is an Electrical Power and Controls student scheduled to graduate in December. He attended presentations from both of the companies as part of his job hunt.

“Anyone can go online, but to meet and shake hands is a good first impression,” Atwell said.

He chose Electrical Power and Controls because of its electrical aspect and job security.

“I love it,” Atwell said. “I’m just hoping to get a great-paying job with this degree.”

TSTC’s Career Services department hosts companies throughout the year that visit specific programs. The department also hosts its Industry Job Fair twice a year for TSTC alumni and students.

“Students should come to these events because of the versatility these companies have to offer,” said Peter Collier, a TSTC Career Services coordinator. “You can define your own path and have a career in mind.”
