(MARSHALL, Texas) – Texas State Technical College’s Career Services department at the Marshall campus hosted its biannual Industry Job Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 3. An estimated 210 students and 51 employers gathered to attend the event.
The event gave TSTC students and alumni the opportunity to network with and learn about businesses from throughout Texas. Recruiters in turn gained an idea of the top notch education TSTC students receive.
Some businesses like Sunstate Equipment have been attending TSTC’s job events and hiring Diesel Equipment Technology students for around 10 years. Omar Bjade, the company’s district service manager for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, was excited to meet students and explore the campus.
“We’ve gotten some quality mechanics out of (TSTC),” Bjalde said. “Some of the students that we’ve recruited out of your school have been by far superior to the other schools.”
Other businesses like Red River Credit Union were visiting the event for the first time.
“(The job fair) was something that we had an opportunity to take part in and get Red River Credit Union out to the community here in Marshall,” said Lauren Reed, the credit union’s human resources assistant. “(TSTC) is very big and very busy, but there is a lot of opportunity.”
Tahya Gipson, a Process Operations student, came to the job fair to find potential opportunities for herself after she graduates in December.
“I love (that TSTC holds job fairs) so we can already know what’s out there and available for us before we even graduate,” Gipson said. “(The employers are) giving us cards, they’re telling us to get online, check their websites: I think that’s great.”
Ryan Gorman, also a Process Operations student, had his eye on the Eastman Chemical Co. and Westlake Chemical after attending the job fair.
“I think it’s good to let everybody know there’s a lot of different companies trying to hire you,” Gorman said. “(The job fairs) help us explore different opportunities too.”
The Marshall campus will have its next Industry Job Fair in March 2024.
