(WACO, Texas) – Texas State Technical College’s Career Services department hosted a representative from the Nyle Maxwell Family of Dealerships who spoke to students on the Waco campus on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Tom Gammon, a partner in the Nyle Maxwell dealerships, talked to students in the Auto Collision and Management Technology and Automotive Technology programs.
Gammon said automotive technicians and lube technicians are needed at the dealerships.
“We are looking for the good ones,” he said.
Gammon told the students that they should get to work before their scheduled start time and stay late to finish their work. He stressed the importance of multi-point inspections at dealerships. He said spotting potential problems for customers can save them expensive repairs later.
Gammon said customers expect their vehicles to be returned clean and well repaired, and settings like seat positions and radio stations not be changed.
“Customer satisfaction is what makes the world go round in the dealership lot,” he said.
William Graham, an instructor in TSTC’s Auto Collision and Management Technology program, said he was glad to hear Gammon talk to the students about customer relationships. Graham said this is covered in the program’s Collision Repair Shop Management class.
Kevin Medellin, of Stephenville, is an Auto Collision and Management Technology student scheduled to graduate in late 2024. He has been around vehicles for as long as he can remember because his father has worked in the repair field for several years.
“It’s good to get involved with the right people who know the industry,” he said.
Jonathan Gonzalez, of Hutto, is pursuing a certificate of completion in Automotive Technology – Chrysler Specialization.
He has worked for about a year at Nyle Maxwell’s Taylor dealership. He said he began working on oil and lube tasks and has since moved up to becoming an apprentice working with a master technician.
Gonzalez said he has enjoyed taking what he has learned at the dealership and having it reinforced in his classes.
The Nyle Maxwell Family of Dealerships has Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Wagoneer locations in Austin, Castroville, Killeen and Taylor.
