(ROSENBERG, Texas) – Graduates from Texas State Technical College’s Fort Bend County campus and their families and friends attended TSTC’s Fall 2023 Commencement held Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Stafford Centre in Stafford.
Each of the 134 graduates received either an Associate of Applied Science degree or a certificate of completion in their program.
Bryan Bowling, provost for TSTC’s Fort Bend County campus, expressed his excitement for the futures of the graduating students.
“It’s always the same hope: that they will find a lucrative career, that they’ll follow their dreams,” he said. “The beauty of taking classes from us is that they can feel very confident that they have the skills their employers find irresistible.”
The faculty members who instructed and guided the students could be seen mingling and talking with them. Jonathan Mankey, an instructor for the Cybersecurity program, loved the feeling of seeing the students graduating from his program.
“I started here as an instructor this semester, so it’s my first graduation here at TSTC,” he said. “It’s very exciting to see people accomplish something in what they love.”
Many of the graduates expressed their gratitude for the instructors and programs. One such student was Chloe Roberts, a graduate of the Cybersecurity program.
“I was in the Army as an IT (information technology) specialist and wanted to match the experience with the degree,” she said. “The instructors are super-open to any questions. It was a great program to enter.”
Roberts was not the only student who found a path forward at TSTC. Noel Perez had attended a local community college for a few years before deciding to make the switch to TSTC and its Welding Technology program.
“Spent a couple of years at a community college studying programming, but I wasn’t enjoying it,” he said. “I saw TSTC was offering welding over the summer and decided to take it. I enjoyed it and have been with it since. Graduating feels like a culmination of all that work.”
