(MARSHALL, Texas) – Marshall native Henry Wells joined the Drafting and Design program at Texas State Technical College’s Marshall location after opening his family’s dream business, Wells Enterprises Unlimited LLC.
“We wanted to build affordable houses,” he said. “That’s where TSTC came into play.”
Wells had already graduated from TSTC before, earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Networking and Systems Administration in 2018. His wife encouraged him to return to TSTC for his certificate of completion in Architectural/Civil Drafting Technology after opening the company in 2020.
Wells appreciates being able to design houses with computer-aided design (CAD) software that he is learning to use in his classes.
“We need to be able to draw it up and present it to the customers; they need to see it, physically see it,” Wells said. “We need to sit down with them and change layouts, colors and schemes, heights and pitches. That’s where we’re at right now, and TSTC is helping us.”
Wells’ commitment to his education and his goals for his company do not go unnoticed by his instructors.
“Henry has been a dedicated student who demonstrates professionalism,” Drafting and Design instructor Brenda Murrell said. “It is a pleasure to have him as a student.”
Wells plans to graduate in 2025. He said he also hopes to build a development of 10 to 20 three-bedroom, two-bath houses.
Wells hopes his three children will follow in his footsteps and pursue a TSTC education. He is also considering getting more involved with the Marshall location’s Veteran Services — being a U.S. Army veteran himself — and someday holding employer spotlights for his fellow Drafting and Design students.
“You’ll have an advantage going to TSTC,” Wells said. “TSTC, to me, is an important asset of Marshall, Texas.”
Registration for the summer and fall semesters is currently underway. For more information on TSTC, go to tstc.edu.
