(MARSHALL, Texas) – For Marshall resident Deanna Anders, graduating from Elysian Fields High School was only the beginning of her history with the Elysian Fields Independent School District. She returned to the school district to teach, but she knew that she could push her career further.

“I am a big fan of the user end of technology, especially as it relates to education,” Anders said. “To further my career and further my influence, I wanted to learn more about the networking end of computers so I could get an administrative position and help the teachers with technology.”

To accomplish her goal, Anders enrolled in the Computer Networking and Systems Administration program at Texas State Technical College’s Marshall location. Though earning her certificate of completion proved challenging, her love of learning kept her on track.

“It was intense, it was a lot to learn, it was a lot of hard work, and I feel like I really gained a lot of information from the classes there,” Anders said.

Anders utilized her TSTC education to teach computer applications to seventh and eighth graders at Elysian Fields Middle School. She was recently promoted to technology director for the district.

“It’s going to be a new experience for me, so I’m sure there will be a lot of learning and growing in that role to support the educators and the students to the best of my ability,” she said. “They’re my No. 1 priority.”

Monica Simmons is superintendent of Elysian Fields ISD.

“Mrs. Anders has demonstrated her significant value in our district as a paraprofessional, teacher and computer expert for teachers,” she said. “Her profound knowledge and expertise in technology are poised to smoothly transition into her new role managing technology support district-wide.”

Anders plans to earn her second certificate of completion in Computer Networking and Systems Administration at the upcoming Spring 2024 Commencement for TSTC’s Marshall location. She said she recommends the college’s hybrid classes to anyone who likes to work at their own pace but still wants to meet face-to-face with instructors.

“TSTC was a wonderful experience for me,” she said.
