(RED OAK, Texas) – More than 50 graduates from Texas State Technical College’s North Texas location received associate degrees or certificates of completion at TSTC’s Spring 2024 Commencement held Monday, April 29, at the Waxahachie Civic Center.
“A large number of our students are choosing to participate in this ceremony to really take the opportunity to celebrate in front of family and friends, and with the faculty and staff that have assisted them along the way,” said Marcus Balch, provost of TSTC’s North Texas location. “It is really cool to have the opportunity to kind of put a capstone on their experience here at TSTC.”
Several graduates already have jobs.
Jordan Chapman, of Waxahachie, received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Power and Controls.
“I have been in school for a long time, so coming this far in my career and going to school, I am excited to be graduating,” he said.
Chapman will work at Schneider Electric in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
“I feel really confident about where I am headed and where I am hoping to be in the future,” he said.
Jeremy Dutschmann, of Alvarado, received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Systems – Electrical Specialization. He said he was excited to finish his college experience.
Dutschmann will continue work at Gerdau Midlothian Steel Mill as an electrician. The company and TSTC have partnered since 2015 to provide employees with opportunities to work toward certificates of completion or associate degrees in TSTC’s Industrial Systems program.
“I am comfortable, (but) as far as being confident in everything I will be doing, not at this time,” Dutschmann said. “But I think that will come in time with hands-on experience in the field.”
Registration for TSTC’s summer and fall semesters is underway.
