(HARLINGEN, Texas) – The Electrical Lineworker and Management Technology program at Texas State Technical College’s Harlingen campus recently partnered with construction and engineering company Kiewit Corp. to provide program graduates with paid training opportunities at the company’s training center in Aurora, Colorado, that could lead to permanent jobs with the company.
“The new partnership is important for Kiewit because it creates a talent pipeline for the company and career opportunities for the college’s electrical lineworker graduates in the power delivery industry,” Vance Brison, director of apprenticeships and learning for Kiewit Corp., said. “We have also visited with program instructors and students at the Fort Bend County and Waco campuses.”
Brison said Kiewit also plans to scout for potential hires by participating in TSTC’s Career Services job fairs, engaging with its electrical lineworker instructors and students, and attending the college’s electrical lineworker rodeos.
Angel Toledo, TSTC’s Electrical Lineworker and Management Technology program team lead, was instrumental in helping to arrange the partnership with Kiewit.
“The partnership will give our students a glimpse at what their future careers could look like,” he said.
Viviana Espinoza is TSTC’s Career Services senior manager of employer relations.
“Aligning with an industry leader like Kiewit not only provides hands-on experience, but it connects our students directly to jobs after they complete their training for rewarding careers,” she said.
TSTC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree and a certificate of completion in Electrical Lineworker and Management Technology at its Abilene, Fort Bend County, Harlingen, Marshall and Waco campuses. The program is part of TSTC’s Money-Back Guarantee, which refunds a participating graduate’s tuition if he or she has not found a job in their field within six months after graduation.
