(HUTTO, Texas) – Sometimes, New Year’s resolutions are not gym memberships but are focused on academic success.
Students returned for the spring semester at Texas State Technical College’s East Williamson County campus on Jan. 13. Many approached the week as a time to get set up for a smooth semester.
Jaycob Maultsby is in his second semester of the Associate of Applied Science degree plan for Industrial Systems. He said he learned some important lessons in the fall about time management.
“Last semester, I waited to do all of my homework on the weekends,” Maultsby said. “I think I can be more efficient. I’m going to get to class on time, do my work on time, and come in on Fridays for extra labs. I’m going to set aside an hour or two a day to do homework.”
Von Bily expects to finish his Associate of Applied Science degree in HVAC Technology before fall this year — a goal he said he has a strategy for.
“I’m treating school as if it’s my full-time job,” Bily said. “I’m focusing on one class at a time, doing all of the work until it’s finished, then moving on to the next course.”
HVAC Technology is one of TSTC’s performance-based education programs, which allows students additional flexibility in their learning.
Braeden Beran agreed with his peers that focus is essential. Beran is in the final semester of his Associate of Applied Science degree in Precision Machining Technology, and one of his courses requires a final group project.
“Staying focused and not messing around is big,” Beran said. “For the group project, we are setting our own internal deadlines to keep on track.”
TSTC’s East Williamson County campus is located in the East Williamson County Higher Education Center. The campus offers six in-person and hybrid programs, three of which are part of TSTC’s money-back guarantee program. To learn more about the money-back guarantee program, go to tstc.edu/mbg.
