(SWEETWATER, Texas) – If you are looking to begin a career in wind energy, Texas State Technical College has a course available.
Registration is open for the Wind Technician Entry-Level Training Program course available at the Sweetwater campus. The course is provided through the college’s Workforce Training and Continuing Education department.
Classes are scheduled to begin Monday, March 3 and will be taught from 6-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday by Billie Jones. The Wind Energy Technology instructor helped write the curriculum for the class, which will run through Thursday, April 3.
“We are excited to bring this 72-hour course to the Sweetwater area, which is considered the wind capital of Texas,” said Cindy Evans, executive director of TSTC’s Workforce Training and Continuing Education department,. “Billie is an excellent person to lead this class focusing on entry level positions in wind energy.”
Evans said the program combines practical and theoretical training to prepare participants for entry-level wind technician roles.
The cost for the class is $1,800 which includes general industry OSHA 10 certification and CPR/first aid certification.
Focus areas will include safety protocols, turbine maintenance, torque/tension tools and lubrication systems.
“Participants will develop skills in inspection, repair, documentation and communication to ensure job readiness,” Evans said.
Clean Power Institute is working with TSTC in offering the course. A limited number of scholarships through the institute are available to participants. The institute’s mission is to strengthen support for the clean energy industry and build, train and empower its workforce, according to its website.
