(HARLINGEN, Texas) – With an associate degree and a certificate of completion from Texas State Technical College already under his tool belt, Charles Bannwarth recently returned to TSTC’s Harlingen campus for a third degree.
“I enrolled in the Electrical Lineworker (and Management Technology) program last year to study for an Associate of Applied Science degree,” he said. “I earned a Structural and Pipe certificate of completion from the Welding Technology program in 2019, followed by an Associate of Applied Science degree in Building Construction Technology last year.”
The Lyford resident said TSTC’s technical training has taught him some essential skills.
“I learned how to weld, plan for projects, make schedules, understand how to sufficiently use Word documents, and other tools to help me get through life,” he said.
Juan Zavala, one of Bannwarth’s instructors, said the hands-on training that Charles will receive in the Electrical Lineworker program will teach him the importance of safety and training.
“The problem-solving skills and assessments are related to real-world scenarios our students will encounter as apprentices in the industry,” he said.
Bannwarth said he wants to learn what to expect as a lineworker in the real world.
“The instructors educate us about the different weather variables we will experience to get the job done,” he said.
TSTC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree and a certificate of completion in Electrical Lineworker and Management Technology at its Abilene, Fort Bend County, Harlingen, Marshall and Waco campuses. The program is part of TSTC’s Money-Back Guarantee, which refunds a participating graduate’s tuition if he or she has not found a job in their field within six months after graduation.
