(NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas) – Texas State Technical College’s New Braunfels campus will add Building Construction Technology to its program list this fall.
Mike Anderson, the campus’s provost, said offering a certificate of completion in Building Construction – Craftsman fills an industry gap for the region.
“Our local partners, the economic development committees, chambers of commerce and independent school districts all recommended the program,” Anderson said. “There is a lot of infrastructure growth, and they need the right workforce to support and accomplish that.”
William Beck, the program’s team lead in New Braunfels, said the campus is not wasting time in preparing.
“We’ll be bringing on two new instructors for the program,” Beck said. “The positions are already posted for applications, and we’re ready to schedule interviews.”
Anderson said that in addition to new faculty and lab space, all of the equipment for the program will be new for the first cohort. The goal is to fill two inaugural classes.
“We want to keep a 15-1 student-to-instructor ratio,” Anderson said. “We are trying to fill the first class with 15 students, with a goal of filling two classes for fall 2025.”
Anderson said he is confident that the program will fill all slots because of support in the region.
“Seguin Independent School District has a building construction booster club that helps the building and construction clubs at the high school,” Anderson said. “Several other high schools are adding more construction trades too. Those students could funnel to this program.”
