(HARLINGEN, Texas) – The Industry Job Fair at Texas State Technical College offered a networking opportunity for industry partners to connect with students and alumni who may be a good fit for jobs at their companies.

Out of the 40 companies that attended the job fair, which was held on Thursday, April 3, representatives from Acadian Ambulance Service in Austin, HGG Profiling Equipment, Inc. in Houston and Magic Valley Electric Cooperative in Mercedes, shared how the event helps them connect with students who have the specialized training their company needs.

Acadian Ambulance Service is looking for future employees who would like to grow in the competitive medical industry,” Edward LeDoux, a military recruiter for Acadian Ambulance Service, said. “We hope to find individuals who will share a commitment to the Acadian Way by serving their community to help people during their most challenging times.”

Seth Ulrich, president of HGG Profiling Equipment, said TSTC students learn skills that are directly aligned with the company’s operations.

“On-the-job skills are crucial in the HGG machine service because productivity, safety and efficiency depend heavily on an employee’s ability to apply technical knowledge in practical settings,” Ulrich said. “We have met several candidates who have developed the critical skills we require through their programs, coursework and hands-on labs.”

Olga Figueroa, a human resources assistant for Magic Valley Electric Cooperative, described what the utility company values in an employee.

“We are looking for candidates who are driven in the fields of electrical lineworker, human resources, information technology and engineering,” Figueroa said.

One student who was ready to make an impression was Angela Salazar of Brownsville. The second-semester Mechatronics Technology student said her plan was to find out which companies offered good pay and flexible hours.
