(HARLINGEN, Texas) – Employers rely on Texas State Technical College’s Business Management Technology program to teach the skills and leadership qualities of future employees.

Haley Chapman, TSTC’s program team lead for the Business Management Technology program, discussed how the program prepares students for careers in the business world.

What skills does the Business Management Technology program provide that make students in demand to employers?

Our graduates are skilled in basic and advanced office software techniques, bookkeeping skills, both manually and electronically, and management skills that include human resource management, e-business management, project management and other areas.

How does the program ensure students are equipped with current industry technologies and trends?

Our program meets with an advisory committee of industry partners who evaluate our curriculum to ensure the skills students learn are relevant to the job market. Since the program is offered completely online, students can access the program from anywhere in the state of Texas and benefit communities statewide.

How does the program incorporate real-world scenarios to prepare students for the challenges they may experience on the job?

Students are assessed on their mastery of skills using real-world scenarios. The assessments require the students to interview local business professionals in their area. In our accounting courses, instructors use projects that require students to analyze daily business transactions for different types of companies.

How does the program focus on developing leadership and decision-making skills that employers value in potential hires?

With our competency-based curriculum, students demonstrate their knowledge by using real-world situations to evaluate problems and recommend solutions using what they have learned.

How does the program prepare students for the job search after graduation?

Students participate in resume building workshops, mock interviews and job fairs to help prepare them to secure their dream job after their graduation from TSTC.

 

The Business Management Technology program offers an Associate of Applied Science degree and certificates of completion in Bookkeeping Accounting Assistant, Business Management Technology and Office Assistant.
