(MARSHALL, Texas) – Texas State Technical College accepted 29 new students to the Marshall campus at the NC3 National CTE (career and technical education) Letter of Intent Signing Day event on Thursday, April 10.
The event was dedicated to high school students who committed to a technical education at TSTC. The students will begin attending the Marshall campus in the upcoming summer or fall semesters.
Corey Grant, of Leverett’s Chapel High School in Laird Hill, has been climbing trees for CB Tree Service in Kilgore for almost three years. This fall he will switch to climbing practice utility poles in TSTC’s Electrical Lineworker and Management Technology program.
“My junior year, we visited this school, and I was already interested in being a lineman,” Grant said. “Seeing the program, it looked pretty fun. I saw everybody was getting along, the instructors were really friendly, it was really approachable.”
Jada Hughes and Jaden Reaves, both from Marshall High School, claimed that Reaves’ sister, Jada, inspired them to enroll in the Process Operations program, from which Jada Reaves graduated in 2021.
“She really explained everything, that it’s a good school to go to, and they’re going to start from the bottom and build you up to the top,” Hughes said.
Jaden Reaves said he also wanted to enroll in the program because of his love of science.
“Science is my favorite thing in the world,” he said.
Jarrett Hicks, from New Diana High School in Diana, first toured TSTC’s Marshall campus with his school but later returned for a private tour of the Welding Technology program. He enrolled in the program with plans to earn two certificates of completion in the future.
“I think it’s an amazing program,” Hicks said. “I love the shop, love the people, love the advisor too.”
