(ROSENBERG, Texas) – More than 20 students from Texas State Technical College’s Diesel Equipment Technology and Industrial Systems programs took a break from classes Tuesday, June 4, to learn about potential job opportunities with one of TSTC’s industry partners, Altec Industries.

Altec, an equipment and service provider for electrical, telecommunications and tree service industries, is one of many employers that look to hire TSTC students and graduates.

“Business is booming, which is why we are here right now looking to hire more people,” Michael Wilkinson, Altec’s Texas area service manager, said. “Not experts necessarily, but those who will add value to our team.”

Wilkinson said there was increased demand for Altec’s services during the recent power outages, which in turn prompted demand to hire more technicians.

“We do have open positions today,” he said. “We have a few in Houston, but also have a larger number the farther out you go throughout the state.”

Events such as the Altec visit can be a good eye-opener for students.

“I want students to learn how to prepare for employers’ job offerings,” Jonathan Bonkoske, program team lead for the Industrial Systems program, said. “To learn how they can prepare to enter into the workforce and increase their chances at getting a high-paying job.”

TSTC offers Diesel Equipment Technology at its Fort Bend County, Marshall, North Texas, Sweetwater and Waco locations. Industrial Systems is offered at the Abilene, East Williamson County, Fort Bend County, Marshall, New Braunfels, North Texas and Waco locations. Associate of Applied Science degrees and certificates of completion are available for each, depending on location.

Both programs are part of TSTC’s Money-Back Guarantee, which refunds a participating graduate’s tuition if he or she has not found a job in their field within six months of graduation. For more information, visit tstc.edu/mbg.
